Klaviyo Composer: What It Actually Does (And Whether It Justifies the Price)
Klaviyo Composer generates email drafts and product blocks from your catalog. Private beta access is limited. Here is what it actually does and whether it justifies the price premium over Omnisend and GetResponse.

Klaviyo added an AI email composer to its platform in early 2026 via private beta. If your account is accepted, you describe a campaign goal and Composer generates a full email draft, populates product blocks from your Shopify or BigCommerce catalog, and produces five subject line variants ranked by predicted open rate. You review and edit a draft instead of writing HTML from scratch.
The reason this announcement matters is cost. Klaviyo is not a budget platform. At 10,000 contacts on the Growth plan (email and SMS combined), you are paying around $150 a month. At 50,000 contacts, that number hits roughly $575. If Composer genuinely collapses campaign production time, those prices become easier to justify against Omnisend or GetResponse. If the time savings are marginal, you are paying a meaningful premium for a feature that generates output you spend as long editing as writing from scratch.
What Composer Actually Generates
Composer works inside Klaviyo's campaign and flow editor. You provide a campaign brief: product being featured, primary goal (launch, clearance, re-engagement), and tone direction. Composer outputs a full email layout with header, body copy, product blocks with images pulled directly from your catalog, and a call-to-action block.
The subject line output is the most practically useful part. Composer generates five variants, ranked by predicted open rate based on Klaviyo's benchmarks for your industry and historical performance from your own account. If your Klaviyo account has six or more months of send history, the predictions are calibrated to your actual list behavior, not just industry averages. That calibration is what separates this from generic AI copywriting tools that have no access to your send data.
What Composer does not do: it does not write your campaign strategy. It does not decide which segment to target, when to send, or what the campaign goal should be. Those decisions remain yours. It also will not generate product images your catalog does not already contain. If your product data in Klaviyo is incomplete or uncategorized, the output will reflect that incompleteness.
Which Plans Include It and What They Cost
As of April 2026, Composer is available to accounts on the Email and SMS Growth plan or above that have been accepted into the private beta. Klaviyo has not published a hard general availability timeline. The Growth plan bundles email and SMS with the full automation suite, which is why the pricing is higher than email-only tools.
| Contact list size | Klaviyo Growth | Omnisend Pro | GetResponse Email Marketing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 contacts | $45/month | $16/month | $19/month |
| 10,000 contacts | $150/month | $80/month | $79/month |
| 25,000 contacts | $285/month | $180/month | $149/month |
| 50,000 contacts | $575/month | $360/month | $299/month |
The gap between Klaviyo and Omnisend is $70 per month at 10,000 contacts and $215 per month at 50,000 contacts. That spread is effectively what you are paying for the Composer feature, assuming Omnisend would otherwise be your platform. Whether the premium pays off is a function of campaign volume and actual time saved per campaign.
The ROI Math at Two Scales
Operator profile 1: 10,000-contact list, 4 campaigns per month. If campaign copy currently takes 2.5 hours per campaign to write (body copy, subject line testing, product block formatting), you are investing 10 hours per month in email production. At a $75 per hour content contractor rate, that is $750 per month in labor or equivalent opportunity cost. If Composer reduces that to 45 minutes per campaign (reviewing the draft, selecting the best subject line, making brand voice corrections), you save 7 hours per month, equivalent to $525 in contractor time.
The $70 per month Klaviyo premium over Omnisend costs $840 per year. The $525 per month in recovered labor time is worth $6,300 per year if you were paying a contractor. Net annual benefit of carrying the Klaviyo premium for Composer: roughly $5,460, assuming the 75% time reduction holds consistently. That is not a marginal case. It is a strong ROI at this scale if Composer delivers the draft quality its beta access is showing for catalog-complete accounts.
Operator profile 2: 50,000-contact list, 8 campaigns per month. At this scale, email production without AI assistance runs approximately 20 hours per month. At $75 per hour, that is $1,500 per month. If Composer saves 70% of that time (a conservative assumption for an ecommerce brand with a complete catalog), you recover 14 hours, or $1,050 per month. The Klaviyo premium over Omnisend at 50K contacts is $215 per month. The math is not close: $1,050 in recovered time against $215 in platform premium is a five-to-one return.
The breakeven case: if Composer only saves 25% of your email production time at 50K contacts with 8 campaigns per month, that is 5 hours recovered per month, worth $375 at $75 per hour. The $215 monthly premium is still covered. Even a weak time savings case works financially at this scale.
Where the Output Breaks Down
The private beta restriction is the most obvious limitation. If your account has not been accepted, none of this applies today. Klaviyo has not been transparent about selection criteria or a timeline for broader rollout.
Beyond access, two structural limitations matter for the ROI calculation. First, output quality depends directly on data quality. Composer generates better campaigns for accounts with more send history and more complete catalog data. An account that has been on Klaviyo for 18 months with 500 properly tagged products and brand guidelines configured in account settings will get materially better output than a new account with 50 uncategorized products. The AI is pulling from your real account data, not generic marketing templates. This is a feature in the long run, but a limitation in the first few months of Klaviyo usage.
Second, Composer is a first draft tool, not a finished campaign tool. Accounts in the beta report spending 30 to 45 minutes editing each generated campaign before it is ready to send. That is faster than writing from scratch, but it is not zero. If your expectation is AI writes and you click send, Composer will not meet it. The realistic time savings is 60 to 75 percent reduction, not 100 percent elimination.
What to Use If You Are Not on Klaviyo
If you are on Omnisend or GetResponse, both platforms added AI content generation in 2026. Omnisend's AI email content generation is included in Standard plans ($59 per month for 10,000 contacts) and generates body copy from your product catalog. The catalog integration is solid for Shopify merchants and works without requiring Klaviyo's data layer.
GetResponse added AI email creation to its Marketing Automation plan in Q1 2026 at $59 per month for 1,000 contacts (or $79 per month for 10,000). GetResponse does not have tight ecommerce catalog integration but covers the AI copy generation use case for service businesses, coaches, and operators who are not selling physical products.
The main practical difference: neither Omnisend nor GetResponse integrates purchase history, browsing behavior, and predictive spend scores into AI generation the way Klaviyo does. If you are a Shopify or BigCommerce merchant and product catalog data needs to appear in emails, the Klaviyo premium becomes harder to avoid. If you are running a service business or content operation where catalog integration is not the issue, GetResponse covers the AI content generation use case at a meaningfully lower monthly cost. See the Klaviyo vs Omnisend comparison for a full feature breakdown.
